Star Trek NSA? These two terms may be polar opposites in some respects, but bear a striking resemblance in another — in regards to the Starship Enterprise, that is. A new profile of NSA Chief Keith Alexander, according to Shane Harris of the Foreign Policy Administration, notes a key “Information Dominance Center” located in Virginia. Yahoo! News reports this Tuesday, Sept. 17, that the most interesting aspect of this stronghold of information is that it was built to look like the popular Star Trek spacecraft, the “Starship Enterprise.”
The Star Trek NSA room design is certainly an eye-catching one, and a creation that was allegedly meant to help entice politicians upon entry into the futuristic information center. Apparently, Keith Alexander, who serves as the commanding general of the U.S. Army and Intelligence Command (also known as INSCOM) helped blueprint the Star Trek room setup back between 2001 and 2003 in order to “woo future policymakers.”
According to Shane Harris’ statement from the Foreign Policy Department:
“Alexander brought many of his future allies down to Fort Belvoir for a tour of his base of operations, a facility known as the Information Dominance Center. It had been designed by a Hollywood set designer to mimic the bridge of the Starship Enterprise from Star Trek, complete with chrome panels, computer stations, a huge TV monitor on the forward wall, and doors that made a "whoosh" sound when they slid open and closed. Lawmakers and other important officials took turns sitting in a leather "captain's chair" in the center of the room and watched as Alexander, a lover of science-fiction movies, showed off his data tools on the big screen.”
A now-retired NSA officer even added that the officers loved to pretend as if they were Jean-Luc Picard every now and then.
"Everybody wanted to sit in the chair at least once to pretend he was Jean-Luc Picard," said one official who was once in charge of all major VIP visits.
DBI Architects, Inc., was able to secure an image from this Star Trek NSA infused information room and government headquarters that really does bear a resemblance to the Starship Enterprise. What do you think, Star Trek fans?
