Paramount Pictures and Qualcomm Incorporated announced Monday 7 January 2013 that ‘Trekkies’, and yes I’m one, will have an opportunity to unlock exclusive content and advanced real world game experiences with a “Star Trek Into Darkness” smartphone application launching at the end of this month.
“Star Trek Into Darkness” directed by J.J. Abrams, opens Friday, 17 May 2013. Chris Pine return’s as Captain Kirk in the story that center’s around the crew of the Enterprise and an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, and leads them on a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction.
Qualcomm Chairman and CEO Dr. Paul E. Jacobs states that the smartphone application will use Gimbal context awareness to enable users to access movie related materials simply by utilizing their real-life surroundings to auto-complete integrated missions by employing audio scan, geo-location recognition and image recognition functionality.
The Super Bowl has become the premiere event for movie special promotions and the upcoming Super Bowl is no exception. The first of several surprises will be revealed on Sunday 3 February 2013 during the second quarter of the Super Bowl. Paramount will premiere a TV-spot for the film with which users of the smartphone application can interact. Users who register for the application will also be automatically entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win tickets to the motion picture’s premiere.
