Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto comes out as gay

Zachary Quinto, best known for starring on the TV series “Heroes” and as Spock in the 2009 “Star Trek” movie reboot, has come out as gay in an interview with New York magazine.

Rumors about Quinto’s sexuality have been flying around for years, but the 34 year old actor never admitted or denied them.

Quinto has played gay characters in the past, including Tori Spelling’s gay best friend Sasan (based on Tori's friend Mehran) and on the new FX series “American Horror Story,” created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck.

In the wake of the numerous suicides that swept the nation last year, Quinto decided to join the It Get’s Better campaign by creating his own video in support of teens that have been bullied.

After hearing about the recent suicide of 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer, Quinto decided he could no longer be silent about his own sexuality. “It became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it - is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality,” he said.
