Star supports amnesty

The Indianapolis Star is complicit in supporting amnesty for illegal aliens with its Sunday, February 24 article “Brought here as kids, still longing to belong.”

While the two-plus page article penned by Robert King sure tugs at the heartstrings of its readers, it completely ignores the fact that these people are in the United States illegally. Although the four people featured in the article appear to be upstanding residents seeking to carve out productive and honorable futures for themselves and within their communities, granting them amnesty would facilitate doing likewise for all the other Juans, Pierres, and Mohammads in this country illegally.

Whether by force – being brought here at young ages by parents who have also committed the crime of illegally crossing our borders, or by overstaying their once legally granted visas, what part of illegal does Mr. King not comprehend?

The mistake of amnesty was made once upon a time by former President Ronald Reagan in 1986 allowing three million illegals legal status. That was supposed to be followed by permanently securing the borders, which clearly has not been accomplished as the number of illegals in the US has passed 12 million.

Allowing illegals to procure Social Security numbers, drivers’ licenses, and pay in-state tuition will only encourage more law breaking by miscreants seeking to invade the borders of the United States and steal resources for which they are not legally entitled.

The United States, a nation of immigrants, welcomes productive, law abiding people to join our ranks – as legal entrants. Incentivizing illegal behavior is not the answer.
