Star Spangled Radio Hour tours 'Dixie' this week (Photos)

Dennis M. Spragg reports that the “Star Spangled Radio Hour” continues their tour of “Dixie” again this week, literally, as they follow Bob Crosby with a visit from Benny Goodman and Johnny Mercer.

To kick things off, BG, his band and Johnny Mercer appear with a 1939 “Camel Caravan” broadcast on location from Asheville, North Carolina and before a very loud and enthusiastic audience. This is live radio at its best along with the great sounds of the Goodman band and Johnny Mercer really encouraging the Goodman fans.

Following is a 1944 NBC “Chesterfield Music Shop” with Mr. Mercer of Savannah, Georgia; Jo Stafford, the Pied Pipers and guest Nancy Walker. Dennis says that it will enliven your Palm Sunday weekend in advance of their Easter Weekend program with Bing Crosby and Glenn Miller.

Rick Crandall and Dennis M. Spragg can be located not exactly in Dixie but at KEZW, Denver, Studio 1430, Saturday, March 23, at 6:00 p.m. MDT (GMT-6), online at www.kezw.com and www.studio1430.com.
