Star of Little Rock

The original Star Of India was a fabulous star sapphire mined in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is located 19.3 miles off the coast of India. If you would like to see the famous golf ball sized sapphire, it is currently kept at the American Museum of natural History in New York City.

Little Rock has a treasure of its own in the Star Of India Restaurant & Bar. Star of India has been a family favorite for over fifteen years! Located in an unassuming strip mall off Shackleford Rd, Star of India serves up an exotic dining experience. What it lacks in location it makes up for with presentation.  The staff is eager to please and attentive, bringing to mind the excellent service at La Hacienda, another Little Rock favorite.

The lassis are to die for. A Lassi is a yogurt drink akin to a yogurt smoothie. Creamy bits of mango meld with sweet cold yogurt in the Star Of India's version. These are especially tasty in the summer.
Start your meal off with one of these drinks, you will not be disappointed!

The menu offers several choices. If you are not sure what you would like try the lunch buffet (served 11am-2:45pm) which features a little of everything.  Contrary to some people's beliefs, Indian food does contain meat, though Star of India has vegetarian options.  Common options are beef, seafood, chicken, and lamb. If you are feeling adventurous the buffet often features more unusual meats such as goat.
Don't let the buffet's small size fool you. The food is very filling!

One of the tastier entrees is Chicken Tikka. Star of India offers two choices. Chicken Tikka Marsala is tandoori chicken cooked in tomatoes and herbs. Chicken Tikka Korma is tandoori chicken cooked in almond sauce.

The Beef Vindaloo is also quite flavorful. It is tender beef and potatoes cooked in a spiced sauce.
Don't forget to save room for dessert! The Kheer Badami is a traditional Indian rice pudding with milk, raisins, and nuts. Gulab Jamun is remiciscent of plain doughnut holes soaked in honeyed syrup.

Don't forget Amruth, another Indian restaurant in Little Rock. Very authentic, excellent food. A good way to tell, count the number of Indian customers. They all go to Amruth.
