Star Jones, who set a Celebrity Apprentice record in last night’s episode of Celebrity Apprentice by raising $170,000 as project manager for her charity of choice, the American Heart Association, raised an additional $170,000 last night at a special event in New York City. The event was a premiere watch party held at Opia Restaurant which was hosted by the American Heart Association and sponsored by Graff, Tagliatella and Shawn Rabideau.
In the episode of Celebrity Apprentice where Star Jones was project manager, the competing teams each worked in a different pizza parlor where they sold pizza in exchange for donations. Team members cold called people from their networks and asked them to buy pizza and donate to the cause. In addition to delivering pizza in exchange for donations, the pizza parlors were open to the public who came in to buy pizzas by the slice or whole. All proceeds went to charity.
The $170,000 that Star Jones team’s raised for the American Heart Association was matched at last night’s premiere watch party at Opia Restaurant. Three of the largest donors at last night’s event included Mrs. Denzel Washington, Mrs. Mitch Modell and Dennis Basso.
"I decided to participate in The Celebrity Apprentice to bring national awareness to America's No. 1 killer, heart disease, which is killing more men and women every year than any other disease. After undergoing open-heart surgery and intense cardiac rehab a year ago this month, I want people everywhere to understand the importance of heart disease prevention. Any person can make changes in their lifestyle - even modest improvements to your health can make a big difference!" –Star Jones from American heart Association.
