Stanley Tucci and Robert Redford talk latest film 'The Company You Keep' (Photos)

Robert Redford's latest film "The Company You Keep," hits theaters today in New York and Los Angeles and Examiner.com had the opportunity to speak with Stanley Tucci and Robert Redford at the film's premiere at MoMA presented by Avion Tequila's latest beverage Avión Espresso.

Film Synopsis: Jim Grant (Robert Redford) is a public interest lawyer and single father raising his daughter in the tranquil suburbs of Albany, New York. Grant’s world is turned upside down when a brash young reporter named Ben Shepard (Shia LaBeouf) exposes his true identity as a former 1970s antiwar radical fugitive wanted for murder. After living for more than 30 years underground, Grant must now go on the run. With the FBI in hot pursuit, he sets off on a cross-country journey to track down the one person that can clear his name.

Q: Why did you decided to star in the film?

Robert Redford: The story! The story contained wonderful characters and one of them was the one I wanted to play...You never know what's coming, but when it comes you grab it because it's a good story and it's a good character and I've always been attracted to the hunter and the hunted that's always been a theme in a lot of the films I've been in.

Q: What do you admire about Shia LaBeouf?

Robert Redford: His energy, his commitment, his fast brain, he's got a very fast brain and he's totally committed he gives 150% I appreciated that.

Q: There are also some amazing performances from Julie Christie, Anna Kendrick, Susan Sarandon and more.

Robert Redford: It's a wonderful cast. I was very lucky these people came on board and I was blessed by seeing my colleagues willing to step in and take on these roles, I was very lucky to draw such a wonderful cast.

Q: Tell us about your character.

Stanley Tucci: I play the editor of a newspaper in Albany whose doing everything he can to hang on to the newspaper and not compromise his integrity.

Q: Did you do any special research or preparation?

Stanley Tucci: No, I didn't. It was all there on the page, it was pretty straightforward.

Q: What was it like working with Robert Redford and what do you admire about him?

Stanley Tucci: It was fantastic. It was wonderful. I admire a lot about him. He's a wonderful actor, he's a great director, he's a great champion of liberal causes, but he's also a great champion of cinema as a whole particularly independent cinema and one of the reasons independent cinema is healthy and thriving is because of him.

"The Company You Keep" is based on the novel by Neil Gordon and also starrs Julie Christie Sam Elliott, Brendan Gleeson, Terrence Howard, Richard Jenkins, Anna Kendrick, Shia LaBeouf, Brit Marling, Stanley Tucci with Nick Nolte, Chris Cooper and Susan Sarandon. The film's runtime is 125 minutes and it opens in New York and Los Angeles theaters today on April 5th, 2013.
