A Baltimore mainstay will soon be closing its doors and cutting some local jobs. Stanley Black & Decker plans on closing its West Baltimore facility on Sisson Street and cutting 79 jobs, according to the Baltimore Business Journal. The layoffs will take place in waves, beginning April 1-14, and culminating in a October 23 - November 6 wave.
History (excerpts from Black and Decker website):
In 1843, Frederick Stanley started a small shop in New Britain, Connecticut, to manufacture bolts, hinges, and other hardware from wrought iron.
In 1910, S. Duncan Black and Alonzo G. Decker started their shop, similar in size at first, in Baltimore, Maryland. Six years later they changed the world by obtaining the world’s first patent for a portable power tool, and the company they built has been changing the world ever since.
In 2010, the two companies combined to form Stanley Black & Decker . . .
The closure of theStanley Black & Decker Sisson Street facility will not impact operations at the Stanley’s Construction & Do-It-Yourself Headquarters in Towson, MD.
