Stanford women take home Juli Inkster Invitational trophy for 3rd straight year

The Stanford Cardinal Women’s golf team took their 3rd straight Juli Inkster Invitational title Tuesday, March 5th at Almaden Golf & Country Club in San José.

The Lady Cardinal squad sailed home with an 11-stroke lead over the 2nd-place Washington Huskies, 878 to 889, largely on the strength of a sterling performance by last month’s PAC-12 Player of the Month, freshman Mariah Stackhouse, of Riverdale, GA. Stackhouse carded three rounds under par, 70-70-71 – 212, to take individual honors, and was the only player in the tourney to put up more than one under-par round. Stanford’s Danielle Frasier, a junior from Encinitas, CA, also placed in the Top 10 in the individual results, posting 73-71-78 – 222 to tie for ninth.

The second-place Washington Huskies also had two players in the Top 10; Charlotte Thomas, a freshman from Surrey, England, was T-5 at 221, Husky sophomore SooBin Kim, of DongHae, South Korea, finished T-9.

Northern California teams dominated the top five places on the leaderboard; besides Stanford in the number 1 position, the Cal Bears squad tied for 3rd place with the NC State Wolfpack with a final score of 897, and the UC Davis Lady Aggies rounded out the Top 5 in solo fifth place with a score of 903.

Regan De Guzman, a freshman on the San José State University squad who is from Quezon City in the Phillipines, brought home 2nd-place individual honors with rounds of 74-72-72 – 218; the host team placed 9th in the 14-team tournament with a score of 920, one stroke behind Fresno State.
