Stanford freshman Mariah Stackhouse, of Riverdale, GA, led the Lady Cardinal golfers to the top of the leaderboard on the first day of the 2013 Juli Inkster Invitational on Monday, March 4th, at Almaden Golf & Country Club.
Stackhouse, recently named the 2012 Pac-12 Player of the Month, posted rounds of 70 and 71 on the 6,180-yard par-72 course to lead the individual competition by three strokes. The Stanford women closed the first day of the tournament with a 9-stroke lead over second-place Cal thanks to strong performances by Stackhouse, junior Danielle Frasier, of Encinitas, and sophomore Mariko Tumangan, a graduate of San Jose’s Presentation High School.
The SJSU Spartans, hosts of the tournament, are T-8 after two rounds of golf. The other teams participating in the tournament are Colorado State, Fresno State, Kansas State, North Carolina State, San Francisco State, University of Oregon, Santa Clara University, UC Davis, UC Irvine, and University of Washington.
The tournament is named in honor of former SJSU star Juli Inkster, a native of Santa Cruz, CA,who went on to a distinguished career as an LPGA professional after graduating from San Jose State University in 1982. Inkster, who currently resides in Los Altos, has thirty-one LPGA victories to her credit, including seven major championship titles.
