Stanford opens season on Friday night

For the first time ever, Stanford football will open a season on a Friday night.

Stanford announced the television assignments for the first four weeks of the season. The Cardinal home opener against San Jose State has been moved to Friday night, August 31st at 7pm. The game be broadcast on the brand new Pac-12 Network.

Stanford will return to the Pac-12 Network the following week. Stanford hosts Duke on September 8th at 7:30pm.

Stanford’s week three showdown against top ranked USC will be shown nationally by Fox. The September 15th game will kickoff at 4:30pm.

Rounding out the top four games is a Thursday night game. Stanford’s first road game of the year is at Washington on September 29th at 6pm. That will be broadcast by ESPN.

With a new television contract that includes ESPN, FOX and the new Pac-12 Network, the conference has done its best to keep future dates as “to be announced.” The goal is to get as many of the most important matchups on the prime time schedules.

The Pac-12 Network will be airing a double header on Thursday, August 30th as it makes its football debut. Stanford vs San Jose State will be the third football game broadcast by the new network.
