Stanford loses Tarver to the Raiders

After a one year stay at Stanford, Jason Tarver is headed back to the NFL. The Oakland Raiders announced the hiring of Tarver to be the new defensive coordinator for the Raiders. Tarver will serve under new head coach Dennis Allen who was the defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos this past season.

Tarver came to Stanford from the NFL where he was an assistant coach with the San Francisco 49ers from 2001-1010.

The 37-year old Tarver was the co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach for the Cardinal last season. Stanford ranked third nationally against the run last season and averaged three sacks per game. The players seem to be very supportive of what Tarver brought to The Farm.

While Tarver will certainly be considered a loss, Stanford is in good hands with co-coordinator Derek Mason still at the helm. Logic would dictate that Mason will hold the defensive coordinator job on his own this season, but that could depend on who is available for Coach David Shaw to bring in to replace Tarver.
