Stanford football's Matt Kopa out 6-8 weeks

All things were not good coming out of Stanford’s 39-13 win over Washington State this past weekend. Starting right tackle Matt Kopa broke a metatarsal bone in his left foot and will require surgery. The senior is expected to miss 6-8 weeks recovering.

“It is a big blow,” Coach Harbaugh said of a player he called out for having one of the better games in week one.

While it is a big loss for the Cardinal, unlike in previous years, Stanford seems much better equipped to handle the loss. Senior Chris Marinelli will move over to right tackle and junior Andrew Phillips will return to the starting lineup at left guard.

In other injury news:

Wide receiver Chris Owusu has recovered from a slight concussion suffered on Saturday. He practiced today and will be in the lineup Saturday at Wake Forest.

Tackle Allen Smith seems closer to returning to the field. Coach Harbaugh said the sixth-year senior may travel with the team to Wake Forest and if he does there is a chance he could see a little game action. A definite decision has not been made yet and may not be until the team departs on Thursday.

Linebacker Alex Debniak remains out for week two with a knee injury.
