Stanford football fans will rejoice at the news that safety Delano Howell will be back in the starting lineup for the Cardinal when they line up against the Oregon Ducks on Saturday.
Stanford has suffered a number of injuries the past few weeks and to call them fully healthy would be incorrect. But there is some good news as they prepare for arguably the biggest game in Stanford Stadium history.
Coach David Shaw gave a little bit of an update on his injured warriors at his media conference on Tuesday.
DELANO HOWELL: He has been cleared to practice and he will be in the starting lineup on Saturday. (My hunch is that he would have played this past Saturday had it been the Ducks)
CHRIS OWUSU: He is out for Saturday as he recovers from his third reported concussion in 13 months. Shaw said that Owusu is fine and wants to play, but the decision is not his at this point. Officially Owusu is week-to-week, but for Oregon he is out. Ty Montgomery will start in Owusu’s place.
ZACH ERTZ: “Doubtful” is what Shaw called him as he recovers from a knee injury. Shaw did say Ertz is “getting close” and has made big improvements but the coaches and trainers need to see him on the field first. (I would not be surprised to see Ertz on the field at least as a decoy)
CAMERON FLEMING: “He will be close,” Shaw said. Fleming will be back at practice at some point this week and a decision on his status will be made at the end of the week.
LEVINE TOILOLO: The 6-8 tight end is fine and will practice 100% this week and play on Saturday.
JORDAN WILLIAMSON: “Game-time decision” is how Coach Shaw put the status of his kicker. The redshirt freshman is expected to be back at practice sometime this week, after that it is about what he shows his coaches as to whether they let him kick in the game.
