Standing room only activities at Denver’s StarFest Convention

StarFest held this past weekend May 2-4 was a family convention that includeded plenty of activities for the kiddoes. The Doctor Who Fest, which was a convention inside a convention, hosted a workshop called Build Your Own Sonic Screwdriver. Parents brought their kids construct their own “non-lethal weapon of choice.” They also had a costume contest for the younger Whovian cosplayers with amazing prizes and fun. There was always something going on in the Marriott’s atrium was always busy with Marc Gunn entertaining with amazing music, a Miss Empire Pageant, foam combat for the kids, and even a Yoga Sound-Alike contest.

The tables at GameFest were packed the entire weekend with tabletop and role playing games for all ages and interests. The schedule included an incredible variety of well-known games as inventive home-made games. There was a StarFest Art Show where some incredible artwork was on display. Another popular event was HorrorFest which may have taken some courage for some to enter their panel rooms filled with guests, panels, and displays. Joss Whedon fans packed in to a panel room to celebrate the Whedonverse with discussions and laughs. Other popular panels were the Sherlock Holmes and Star Trek trivia panels, and an informative panel on basic Steampunk costuming. The video room was always open for attendees who simply wanted to chill with fellow Sci-Fi and horror fans.
