Hebrews 16:17-19 (AMP)
Accordingly God also, in His desire to show more convincingly and beyond doubt to those who were to inherit the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose and plan, intervened (mediated) with an oath. This was so that, by two unchangeable things [His promise and His oath] in which it is impossible for God ever to prove false or deceive us, we who have fled [to Him] for refuge might have mighty indwelling strength and strong encouragement to grasp and hold fast the hope appointed for us and set before [us]. [Now] we have this [hope] as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul [it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it—a hope] that reaches farther and enters into [the very certainty of the Presence] within the veil…
It is impossible for God to lie or change His Mind. Do you believe that today? His Promise and Oath are a refuge for those who choose to put their faith and trust in the Lord. The “mighty indwelling strength and strong encouragement” we need to hold fast to the hope that He has appointed for us is found every time we take His Promise and secure it to our life in word and deed. We have hope as sure and steadfast as an anchor that holds a mighty ship safely in place while allowing it to move with each wave so it will not be destroyed. It cannot slip or break down under whoever steps upon it. Could it be that our promises lead us to our purpose? Absolutely, hope allows us to reach farther into God’s Presence and pull ourselves deeper behind the veil of His Presence where we find all that we need to wait until we obtain all that He has promised. Such eloquent words describe a difficult and harrowing process as we work to release fear and doubt to hold tighter to faith and trust in God that allows us to step out of reality and into the Righteousness of God. Standing on the Promises of God requires taking that first step and continuing to walk step-by-step into the Presence of God until your whole life is based on His Promises backed by His Oath to inherit everything His Purpose has prescribed for your life and every blessing in between.
I am stretched today to move closer to the Lord yet terrified of the prospect. The doctors have consulted physicians not just in this country but around the world concerning my son’s future. I chose only to consult the One who created him forming him in my womb and writing every moment of his life before he was born. It is one thing to react in a desperate situation. Four times now, the doctors have concerned that cancer has invaded his body and four separate times the Lord has kicked it out. However, with each recurrence more frequent and greater in intensity there is a new prospect on the table called a bone marrow transplant. It is difficult to even consider as our son is currently cancer-free and living a normal life as a college student. God knows the many plans that He has for our boy. His Purpose is far from fulfilled. To even consider such a dangerous and radical treatment leaves me speechless in the Presence of the Lord asking for clarity and discernment. If we are to go another route, please show me Lord. If we are to stay here for a while, put Your Mighty yet Gentle Hand before me. If you want us to turn back as we have strayed off course, simply turn us back to you. In the silence of this place, I realize that I must now rely on the hope that has become my anchor born of faith brought through the fire, not once, but four different times. No matter what the result of the consult today, my hope is in the Promise of God that is my son “will live and not die!” These words seem giant when spoken to a broken heart but when faith in His Word and trust in His Way require us to “step out upon it” – I wonder who will stand on His Promises.
Numbers 23:19 (NLT)
God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?
God is not a man. He is trustworthy and true in every situation. He will never leave me or forsake me in following Him. Even when I start to slip, fall down or run in the opposite direction, His Love, Compassion and Mercy keep Him right where He is until I return or cry out for His Rescue. People are not like that. They do not necessary know how to hand their own troubles along the way so they shy away from those in the midst of great hardship. God will never make a promise to you without backing it up as an oath. The Promises of God comprise His Covenant, but they are sealed with His Oath that binds them to the Kingdom of God as our inheritance sealed until the day we redeem them. People make promises all the time. Some are bold face lies while others are with true intentions backed by human weakness making them unstable. The Lord is not human so every promise that He makes to you and I are for sure. They last forever because His Kingdom is forever. (Psalm 146:6) They are pure. God’s Motives are all about our purpose and our perfection. (Psalm 18:30) His Way is perfect…I must learn to put my faith and trust in God alone to secure my life with the anchor of hope that He has promised. A promise is defined as an expressed assurance on which expectation can be based. We long to trust people because we can see, feel and touch them. But this is not the faith that will lead us to righteousness. Righteousness allows us to experience the reality of the oath that God wraps every promise in. An oath supports the promise. It pronounces a divine connection between God’s Word and His Actions. He has affirmed each promise with Heavenly consequences. God is not a man! He will not change His Mind. (1 Samuel 15:29) God has a plan for my life. It holds a future and hope. It is called Destiny. He intends for me to have it. (Job 23:12-14)
Psalm 91:4 (NLT)
He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
The Promises of God are a refuge for my life. (Read Psalm 91) In His Presence where my hope is secure, I am covered in His Feathers – His Comfort, Compassion and Mercy. He shelters me with His Wings – His Paternal Protection. His Faith Full Promises are my armor and protection by faith I am secure. Hope keeps me right there in the Presence of God. It is in this place that I am not affected by the battle raging outside. There are many promises in Psalm 91 that are useful in our life. Safely wrapped in the Promises of God by faith – I am safe from every trap, protected from deadly diseases (even stupid cancer), protected from every attack that I can see and disaster looming in the darkness. Such a stand allows me to win every battle. His Protection in Righteousness extends from His Presence to the perimeter of my territory even as He expands it. He will protect me wherever I go. The Lord will hold me up in the most violent and uncertain situations. I will walk all over the enemy if I choose to dwell with the Most High God wrapped in His Promises and secured by confident hope. The Lord loves me with great jealousy. His Love and Care for me is overwhelming and complete yet absolutely free. Jesus paid for it in full. Such extravagant power, protection, provision, passion and prosperity are all free for me if I simply choose to put all my faith and trust in the Most High God and pursue His Promises for my life. God’s Promises will revive you when every bit of your humanity wants to give up. (Psalm 119:49-50) I must learn to turn my eyes from the worthless things to find real life in God’s Promises revealed in His Word and Way. (Psalm 119:37-40)
Romans 4:20-22 (NLT)
Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises. And because of Abraham’s faith, God counted him as righteous.
I must not waver from believing God’s Promise for my life. My faith must grow stronger. I must bring Glory to God. I must be fully convinced that God is able…God will do whatever He promises. This is faith that God counts as righteous. As I struggled in the days leading up to this moment, the Spirit of God reminded me of all the times that God has honored this promise over the last two and a half years. My mind has determined it illogical for the Lord to bring my son from death to life four separate times just to walk away and allow him to die in the end. The mountain of faith that I have been climbing gets lonely sometimes. But what I have come to realize is that every step has moved me deeper and deeper into the Realm of Hope. Each storm that we have faced required that I wrap myself tighter in His Promises which shuts out the world around me. In every promise, God is working on righteousness that can only be found by faith and trust in God alone through the Grace of Jesus Christ. God is working on my wavering by removing every stumbling block until the only step that I can take is the one called faith and trust fully in the assurance of His Promise placing all my expectation in Him. It’s time to put my “money where my mouth is”. I do not think that Abraham skipped up the mountain with his only son when the Lord asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. I know that it was with a heavy heart. I do not believe it was with features set in stone by forced masculinity. I believe Abraham cried many tears along the way. His thoughts were racing as this man retraced every step of His Walk of Faith with God to make sure they were secure. God’s Promises are attained by faith and achieved in righteousness alone. It doesn’t have to be pretty. You don’t always have to be brave. You just have to do it. Take a step forward to stand on His Promise by faith. And then, again and again until you make it into righteousness and receive your inheritance. God’s Promises, His Process and His Purpose are always and will always be bringing us back to Him! (2 Peter 3:8-9)
2 Corinthians 1:19-20 (NLT)
For Jesus Christ, the Son of God, does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” He is the one whom Silas, Timothy, and I preached to you, and as God’s ultimate “Yes,” he always does what he says. For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.
Every promise that God has made you is “Yes” today. Jesus Christ is God’s Word (His Oath) that will make them come to pass. By putting all of our faith and trust in the Lord, we step into the privileged area called righteousness. Now all things are possible simply because we believe. I do not know what lies ahead, but I know who holds the future. As long as I seek the Promises of God through putting all my faith and trust in the Word (Jesus) following His Way (Righteousness) – it is impossible not to see God’s Promises come to pass. He cannot lie. He cannot change His Mind. I must change mine. I have decided to stop looking up the mountain but rather focusing on the next step of faith and breathing. Sometimes that is the greatest step of hope that you will ever find – in total weakness choosing to stand on His Promise rather than give up. I will stand on God’s Promises today…how about you?
I John 2:22-25 (NLT)
And who is a liar? Anyone who says that Jesus is not the Christ. Anyone who denies the Father and the Son is an antichrist. Anyone who denies the Son doesn’t have the Father, either. But anyone who acknowledges the Son has the Father also. So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father. And in this fellowship we enjoy the eternal life he promised us.
