Stand with Americans and secure our borders, or fight Arizona: which is it?

Judging from President Obama’s frail press conference and the current headlines, our government comes across as a horde of schizoids suffering from a multiple personality disorder.

Clearly, the conference was not Obama’s best performance. In fact, he seemed downtrodden and stressed by it all, but the question is where does he honestly stand on the issues: the Gulf oil spill, the Clinton-Sestek pay-for-play scandal, the war in Afghanistan and not the least, abating the horrors at our southwestern border?

Will someone in Washington please paint a picture for the rest of us? Most of us are not psychiatrists, and it is hard to decipher what Washington represents, where we are and where we are going. This is the time when strong leadership comes into play, not politics as usual.

Could it be just another game of smoke and mirrors to cover up gross incompetence? Teleprompter-driven lip service is wearing very thin, and a positive plan of action and execution is the only course.

For instance, take the border control issue; Washington’s recent approach to controlling the border is self-defeating and even ludicrous. While Eric Holder and his justice department lawyers plan to challenge Arizona’s illegal immigration law, Obama sends 1,200 national guardsmen to “help” control illegal immigration.

Which is it? Does Washington stand on the side of the people, or do they side with illegal immigrants and Mexico’s Calderon who essentially blames Americans for the border problems. You would think by the cheering and applause during Calderon’s speech, the whole lot of them back Calderon, not the American people.

Then, President Obama switches signals by sending troops to "help" control the border.

In truth, I think sending 1,200 National Guardsmen is a lame, political triangulation to stir Obama’s base. It was not a serious response if you really want to wage war and win. According to those in the know, we need at least 6,000 troops to be effective. Besides, Attorney General Eric Holder’s posture to challenge Arizona will render Obama’s contribution even more pathetic.

Considering the actions by Holder’s Department of Justice, it is a complicated ruse. The DOJ is supposed to uphold U.S. laws; and yet, department lawyers are spending taxpayer money and energy to fight Arizona’s new law—a law that the majority of Americans support, and one that mirrors a federal law to control illegal immigration. This contorted justice can only help foreign intruders.

Holder’s legal beagles are hinging their case on the premise that the Arizona law is unconstitutional and that “. . . it impinges on the federal government's authority to police the nation's borders.”

There must be a joke embedded in this gobbledygook, but no one is laughing. Something for the DOJ and Homeland Security to ponder: rather than fighting Arizona, why not catch illegal immigrants, prosecute them and lock them up? This includes terrorists among others who are not Mexicans.

It is not only about controlling illegal immigration of Mexicans, it is a daunting matter of protecting us from wholesale invasion by nationals from all parts of the world.

According to a Homeland Security report, “A Line in the Sand: Confronting the Threat at the Southwest Border” hundreds of apprehended illegal aliens were from Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Pakistan, Cuba, Brazil, Ecuador, China, Russia, Yemen, Albania, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan.

Instead of wallowing in paranoia, backbiting and dirty politics, Washington should keep it simple and just do the job. One could view this administration as a servile dictatorship, run by a small clique that exploits crises rather than explores solutions to the vast array of problems facing our nation.

Homeland Security is responsible for national security and along with other agencies, should provide protection by apprehending “bad” people. The DOJ should prosecute according to the law, and lock up “bad” people. Security agencies and the DOJ must focus on their mission, rather than play politics particularly with regard to internal state affairs.

For example, let the people of Arizona and other Border States act upon and solve their problems. Washington should help, not hinder. The majority of Americans stand united and determined to recapture our legacy of state and national pride and tradition.

We have integrity, moral standards, honor and character—we do not need Washington to meddle. We are not accustomed to, nor do we want micro-management by bureaucrats. What we want and need is for Washington to stand with us and act according to The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution of the United States.

One more thing for Washington politicians: Please refrain from denigrating and harassing innocent Americans, and quit pandering to rogue nations who want us decimated. We do not deserve this.

Can we count on you to stand with us?

Both of your options are crappy.

The border in not as nearly out of control as our own government.

Why not start there first? Our real enemies are already inside the country because they were born here.

You can't find them by the color of their skin. But you can find them by what they say.

Those who wish to demonize these poor immigrants into something they're not paint a target on their own forehead.

    Rightfully so too.

I cover a lot of ground on Examiner.com. Post in many cities.

There is a concentrated effort to direct the problem with our laws to the backs of those who cross our borders in search of a better life.

It is blatantly racist. Often by some of the examiners themselves. They draw attention to things like illegal alien rapists and such without any consideration to all the law abiding people who come across. They dirty the whole group as a scare tactic.

The problem is with us and our laws, not those who come here for the same reasons our forefathers did.

And "rogue nations"? Is this a good time to talk about Israel???

    Illegal by definition of law.

    Where did compassion go?

Have you ever seen the poverty some of these people are trying to escape?

I'd jump the fence too. "Illegal" or not would make no difference to me.

The law can be made to work for them and us, but not by emotional hand wringing and racist attitudes.

Time to take a step back, me thinks.

I am sick of all this pathos re illegals. There is a process to become a citizen and they can use it.
I pity those people that their governments go after & kill them. That is NOT the case w/Mexico. That country needs their citizens to stand with them to better their country, not flee. Mexico isn't as poor as people think!
We are a nation of laws, if I stole food because I was hungry does that mean I won't be prosecuted?
I wouldn't jump a fence, I would demand my government make changes to make it better for my children. That's how America became the Nation we are. They should be marching at home, not here.

I'm sure I would find your articles racist, anti-American and illogical and just plain stupid (Gee, I guess anyone can write for the Examiner!)
Why don't you start writing articles in Mexico exposing the corruption there! I personally don't want to read your bullshit.

There's MILLIONS of homeless, poor, poor American citizens here that we can't take care of. Why don't you write about that? Do you think money grows on trees? What kind of people ignore the hungry babies in their own back yard while giving money to lawbreakers? Wake up dude and quite spreading your crap.

BTW, Illegals are NOT lawbiding citizens. Illegals coming here & have babies are criminals using children to further their lawbreaking ways. Driving around w/out a license = lawbreakers.
Getting paid under the table = lawbreakers. Obtaining assistance by lying = lawbreakers. Stealing identities = lawbreakers.

    Need I go on?

aha ha ha ha ha *gasp* aha ha ha ha ha

Lou, you have outdone yourself yet again. You know you've hit your mark when someone hollers "RACIST!".

Don't they know that they've overused that old label until it simply has no impact any longer?

Such silly gooses. Some day something will happen that really is racist and they'll yell but nobody will listen.

  • Lou 1 year ago

Dev, I think "racist" falls on deaf ears *now*.

xexon: Look around the U.S. Poverty surrounds us. Would you like to open the borders to *all* nations in poverty? Shouldn't we take care of our own first?
