Stand up if you got that Holy Ghost "Power" by Deitrick Haddon

I really like Deitrick Haddon.

He's like an old soul church man in a young man's body.

So when I heard his "Stand up if you got that Holy Ghost power..." song again on the radio today -- XM/Sirius 33 seems to have it in heavy rotation -- I turned it up and grooved along with that ever-present bass line that reminded me of someone playing the Church on the Moon album at church.

I'll admit when I first heard his "Church on the Moon" lead track of the same name, I wasn't too impressed.

After all, this is the dude who disappeared into the studio and 7 days laters came out with 7 Days, an album that he said God gave him during that one pivotal week -- one that turned up gems like Heaven Knows, which I can quote verbatim at points.

Especially the line about church people who dog out the pastor that falls, the "same man who prayed for them when they were lost."

But sometimes it takes hearing other songs on the album to grow to love them, and that's what's happened with "Power" on Church on the Moon for me.

"Don't get it twisted, the enemy's real," Haddon sings, saying that people may see his whips and grips but they don't know the battle and the shield of faith he's had to uphold to get where he is.

I even watched his movie, Blessed & Cursed, via Netflix when it first came out. They showed it at a church event recently. I hope Haddon makes a lot more movies.

I found it interesting the way his wife in real life played the role of the woman he was shacking with and the pretty girl played his love or "like" interest at church. Cute and interesting.

Patrice...that was her character's name. Wow...isn't it amazing the things the Lord helps us remember?

Anyway, I know Haddon's film had to be all safe and clean for the church crowd, but I hope he continues to grow in this area. We need more black Christian films on screen in the theaters. That's a big crowd that would support them. Just look at Tyler Perry...

Oh yes, and I felt led to tell this audio-visual guy from Detroit that I'd just watched Haddon's movie last year -- and he looked at me like, "Oh my!"

I knew why God told me to say that when the guy pulled out his phone and called Haddon right up. Turns out he knows him well.

Don't know if he ever got in touch with him, but hopefully this will all pan out so the beautiful music and the even better films can continue.
