Los Angeles Waterkeeper recently unveiled Paradise Cove in Malibu as the location for their third annual Stand Up for Clean Water Paddleboard Race. The daylong event on Saturday, April 12, 2014 is part of the nationwide SPLASH Event Series sponsored by the Waterkeeper Alliance. Founded in 1999, the Waterkeeper Alliance champions clean water and strong communities by partnering with local organizations around the globe to raise awareness of storm water runoff and ocean pollution.
Southern California residents familiar with Paradise Cove know firsthand how special this year’s event will be as surfing and launching from the beach at Paradise Cove is normally prohibited. The privately owned café and beachfront property is regarded as one of the idyllic gems of Malibu’s scenic coastline. Well known television shows and movies such as Baywatch and American Pie 2 have been shot on location at Paradise Cove and it is not unusual to find celebrities dining at the popular beach café.
Complete details on the festivities accompanying the event are forthcoming, but the race will feature a five mile open ocean course along with a one mile race for less experienced paddlers. See www.sup4cleanwater.org for additional information as it becomes available.
