The Indie production Star Trek Equinox, The Night of Time has just raised the level of Geek expectation with the announcement of the addition of the legendary Marvel Comics frontman, Stan Lee. According to official sources, the former editor and publisher of Marvel Comics, has agreed to be a part of the independent Star Trek production, Star Trek Equinox: The Night of Time. Lee, who has spent much of the last decade occasionally writing comics and mostly appearing in cameos in the various films based upon the iconic characters that he helped create has just indicated that he will be joining the Star Trek Equinox cast as a principal actor, playing an as yet unnamed Star Trek character. According to a spokesperson from the production, Stan will not only be appearing in the “First Look” extended trailer of Star Trek Equinox: The Night of Time — which is scheduled to begin principal filming towards the end of May 2014 — but he will also be appearing in the full length production, which is tentatively scheduled to film during the summer of 2014.

As it has already been widely reported, the series stars Star Trek Alums John Savage and Gary Lockwood along with Trek Newcomers, Blanca Blanco as Vulcan officer LT T'Lexa, and former WWE star Matt Striker as a Romulan Commander. Additional stars for the series include Samantha Lockwood (Shoot the Hero) who will portray Nurse Christine Roddenberry and Tommy Denucci (Army of the Damned) as Lt. Magnus. The project is currently in preproduction with a set locked down in Kingsland, GA and principal photography due to begin during the first week of June.

Plans are for the production company develop a 48-minute pilot with an additional 28 minutes that is intended to be used as a director’s cut which can be added back into the pilot or turn it into a feature film. The script is by Camren T. Burton, and will fully meld with established Trek chronology (The Night of Time story has Captain Ransom (Savage) returning to the Alpha Quadrant from the Delta Quadrant after being held captive by the Krowtonan Guard for 15 years as well as being shot back 150 years into the past).

Needless to say, the entire team behind The Night of Time is thrilled beyond measure to add Stan Lee to the cast of the production, “We are all looking forward to working with Star Trek’s newest member.” A spokesperson told us.

We were also informed that the production company is running a Kickstarter, the goal of which is to help raise funds needed to shoot the trailer. “We felt that this was the ideal way to not only subsidize the film, but to allow fans the opportunity to actually get in on this historic event. Kickstarters have become an accepted practice to crowd-source projects of this sort.” The goal is to raise $20,000 by May 9th, and they are about a third of the way there already.
