According to Yahoo News on Wednesday, director of "Guardians of the Galaxy" and future director of "Guardians of the Galaxy 2's" James Gunn joined cosplay and comic book fans alike in a flash mob-like ensemble of "grooting" on the steps of the 2014 Dragon Con convention steps. Gunn also singled out a young sapling of a full-sized potted tree of Groot and grooted with her as well.
It seems that the grooting dance craze is trending these days. This was all thanks to director Gunn himself as he was the one responsible for the motion capture movements of the young sapling Groot at the end of the movie.
Another interesting tidbit of information in regards to the Stan Lee cameo appearance was also revealed. Gunn clarified the reasoning behind Lee being cut from a certain scene from the film. Apparently, the venue had the Collector's many display cases and as the Guardians members entered the location, it was Groot that was supposed to encounter Lee in his own display case appearing to be flipping off Groot.
The scene wasn't cut because it was Disney's call to do so. In fact, Gunn stated that the deleted portion wasn't even seen by Disney. In actuality, it was a couple of staff people at Marvel Studios that thought the joke was just too broad to gain an understanding from the audience. Gunn also said he plans on keeping away from Earth based characters and focus completely on cosmic beings.
This can make people speculate on what outer space characters would be used. For instance, there was already an Easter egg of what looked to be Adam Warlock's cocoon in one of the Collector's display case. Nebula made her escape on a Nova Corp ship and then there is of course, the matter of the Mad Titan, Thanos.
"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is scheduled to be released come July 28, 2017.
