According to the Calgary Stampeders website, wide receiver Arjei Franklin has decided to retire from football at the age of 30.
Franklin, a native of Toronto, Ontario, played his university football in Canadian Interuniversity Sport with the University of Windsor Lancers in Ontario University Athletics.
A third round draft pick, 19th overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2006, Franklin spent over three seasons in Winnipeg before being traded to the Stampeders on September 20, 2009 with wide receiver Romby Bryant, and a third round pick in the 2010 CFL Draft for receivers Titus Ryan, Jabari Arthur, defensive lineman Odell Willis and two draft picks.
Franklin went on to play three and a half seasons with Calgary. His career totals are 165 catches for 1952 yards and three touchdowns over seven Canadian Football League seasons.
Franklin's numbers were down however last season as he only caught six passes for 35 yards in eight games, only 12th on the entire team in receiving yardage. His best season was in 2008 with Winnipeg when he caught 49 passes for 566 yards.
