According to the Calgary Stampeders website on Tuesday, the Calgary Stampeders have traded defensive lineman Justin Phillips to the Ottawa Redblacks with a third round draft pick in the 2014 Canadian Football League draft for the Redblacks' third round draft picks in the 2014 and 2015 Canadian Football League drafts.

Phillips has value to the expansion Redblacks because he is a non-import, being a native of Ottawa. So in effect, Phillips, who is a product of Wilfrid Laurier University, will return not only to his home province, but his hometown as well.

Phillips had been a product of the Calgary Stampeders since 2007 where he was Calgary's first round pick, fifth overall. A Grey Cup champion while with the Stampeders in 2008, Phillips recorded a career high 31 tackles in 2011. Phillips, who had a career total of 78 tackles, has four career sacks (including two from last season) and a fumble in 2011.

Professional football is returning to Ottawa for the first time since 2005. Phillips is reuniting with Redblacks head coach Rick Campbell, who has been the Stampeders' defensive co-ordinator the last two seasons.
