According to the Calgary Stampeders website, the Calgary Stampeders will be without running back Jon Cornish Friday evening against the Toronto Argonauts at the Rogers Centre because of a leg intusion.
According to the Canadian Press, Cornish did not practice with the Stampeders on Tuesday and Wednesday, and has been sore in the thigh area now for a couple of weeks according to Scott Fisher of the Calgary Sun.
The Stampeders have announced that Calgary native Matt Walter and rookie import Jonathan Williams will likely share the duties in the Calgary backfield with the Cornish injury. Either way, they have huge shoes to fill as Cornish is currently second in the Canadian Football League in rushing yards with 749.
The Calgary Stampeders also have injury woes at wide receiver and the offensive line. Nik Lewis will not play this week and is likely gone for the season after breaking his ankle in a 26-22 loss to the British Columbia Lions last Saturday, while offensive lineman Dimitri Tsoumpas will be out of the lineup for a second straight week tomorrow because of a head injury.
Calgary (5-2) will play Toronto (5-2) in a rematch of the 2012 Grey Cup won by the Argonauts 35-22.
