There is no surprise that Stampeders running back Jon Cornish was nominated for two awards. Cornish, a native of New Westminster, British Columbia was named the Stampeders' top Canadian and their most valuable player. Cornish leads the Canadian Football League with 1799 yards and is tied with Kory Sheets of the Saskatchewan Roughriders with 12 rushing touchdowns.
Other Stampeders nominees are defensive lineman Charleston Hughes for the most outstanding defensive player. Hughes leads the CFL with 18 sacks. Rene Paredes is the Stampeders' nominee for the most outstanding special teams player. Paredes leads the CFL with 207 points. Offensive lineman Brett Jones of Weyburn, Saskatchewan meanwhile is the Stampeders' most outstanding rookie, while Stanley Bryant is the Stampeders' most outstanding offensive lineman.
The division nominees for every category will be announced next week with the wnners being announced during Grey Cup week in Regina.
