According to TSN on Friday, Calgary Flames' center Matt Stajan will be out for an extended period of time with a leg contusion.
Stajan began the season on the Flames' number one line with Curtis Glencross and Lee Stempniak, but was injured during the Flames' 5-4 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals on Thursday.
Despite the injury, Stajan still played over 22 minutes against the Capitals and won a team high 12 faceoffs. Last season, Stajan had five goals and 18 assists for 23 points, but was an impressive +7 on a Flames team clearly rebuilding for the future.
For Friday night's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Flames put center Joe Colborne into the lineup to replace Stajan. Colbourne, who was acquired from Toronto on September 28 for a conditional fourth round draft choice in the 2014 National Hockey League Entry Draft, struggled Friday night despite the Flames' 4-3 victory. Colborne did not register a point, only won two of ten faceoffs, and took a minor penalty for boarding in the first period.
