Stair and step training

Stair workouts have been an integral training method for athletes for decades now. Columbus Ohio has provided us the best outdoor stair exercise alternatives with no membership cost with Dam Steps and Stadium Stairs.

That is dam as in a dam that holds water such as Alum Creek Lake Dam and the Hoover Reservoir dam in Westerville. Anyone who has been to these locations know that many people and athletic teams frequent these locations for an incredible workout! Personal trainers and training clubs have also been taking advantage of these exercise marvels. Alum Creek Dam steps number 104, and most people utilize the grassy slope and miles along the top of the dam to get numerous exercise alternatives.

Running stairs is a powerful addition to any training regimen which is why it has been used for so long to build lower body strength and endurance. Nothing builds leg muscles and cardio strength combined better. The movement of pushing upward as you run stairs forces the leg muscles to work harder than normal running, and will push muscles to their limit to increase strength and power.

Running steps also falls under a vital training method called interval training that should be included at least once or twice in your weekly workout schedule. Interval training is defined by Wikipedia as “bursts of high intensity work. This high intensity work is alternated with periods of rest or low activity (the intervals in interval training). The term can refer to any cardiovascular workout (e.g. cycling, running, rowing, etc.) that involves brief bouts at near maximum exertion interspersed with periods of lower intensity activity.”

Most interval training works on a ratio of 1:2, such as 15 seconds of running up the dam steps and 30 seconds of walking (rest period) down the steps. Interval training is a great cardio fat burning workout!
