Staind released their sixth album entitled, "The Illusion of Progress," one year ago, on August 19th. The album also had a limited edition disc-set for select fans featuring bonus tracks."This Is It," a track from the set was available for iTunes downloads, as well as for the popular "RockBand" videogame before the album hit the shelves. The rock album debuted at #3 on US Billboard 200, while reaching #1 on the Top Modern Rock/Alternative Albums Chart and on Top Digital/Internet Album charts. The band hails from Spingfield, Massachusetts and is made up of lead singer Aaron Lewis, lead guitarist Mike Mushok, bassist/vocalist Johnny April and drummer Jon Wysocki.
Many of the band's followers had no clue that in November of 2003, Staind attempted to sue musician Jon Stainbrook over his 1980 trademark of "The Stain". If it had came out unfavoralbe than Staind would have had to change their band name and forfeit all trademark claims. Luckily this was avoided and in 2005, guitarist Mike Mushok claimed that Staind had on contact with Stainbrook and had no idea of Stainbrook negotiations. Finally coming to an agreement Stainbrook and Staind share the rights to use the trademark. Later, the band's second single was "All I Want", that came out on November 24 and the video was made available on Staind's Myspace on December 12.
The hit song "Believe", topped Billboard's Top 10 Modern Rock Tracks in September of that year. The band has also been supporting on their 2008 European tour. In recent news the band was accredited for their work with the"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – The Album " released in late June, 2009. The band had became increasingly popular for the track, "It's been awhile," which debuted at the top of the billboards in a time when hip-hop/pop dominated the charts. Staind has toured with many great acts including Sevendust, Seether, Flyleaf, P.O.D and Tool, and Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit who befriended the band during their first tour leading to him producing many of their following records.
Aaron Lewis recently stated in an interview that he has switched gears and begun writing for his up-coming solo album later set to be released this year. Staind will also be hammering out a fall tour with the newly reunited band "Creed."

Chevelle started writing songs for their fifth album in 2008. In 2009, the band entered a studio in Nashville with producer Brian Virtue. Sam stated, "We have spent a lot of time making these songs something different from past records without losing the core of our passion. Chevelle has updates and videos from the studio on its official Myspace page. On April 9th, 2009, in their first concert back in Atlanta Georgia, Chevelle premiered two new singles from the new album: "Letter From A Thief" and "Sleep Apnea". It was then that Sam disclosed in an interview that "Sci-Fi Crimes" would serve as the title of their upcoming fifth studio album set to be released on September 1st, 2009.
Chevelle received deep criticizm from the religious community since Chevelle had started of under a Christian label and went on to book shows at Ozzfest and tour with Cradle of Fifth. Sam told the "Chicago Tribune," that they were recovering catholics and that their faith was still extremely important but very personal. They didn't feel that being a rock band on stage would serve as a pulpit. Having been compared to Tool, writers for Christianity Today and The Daily Texan have stated Chevelle as having a unique sound to their music. The Daily Texan described their music as “a kind of controlled chaos, a beautiful darkness, a gentle rampage of aural velocity." Chevelle toured with famous bands such as Machine Head, Filter, and also for four years before Squint Entertainment shut down and the band were signed on to Epic Records in 2002.
