Stagebridge presents Counter Attack, a world premiere play by Joan Holden

Stagebridge has an exciting new offering on the horizon—a world-premiere play! The performing arts group for elders has commissioned award-winning playwright Joan Holden to write Counter Attack! The play is based on a book called Counter Culture by Candacy Taylor about the work lives of those in the second half of life. Counter Attack! Strives to eradicate stereotypical views of older adults, just as Stagebridge does. A fun and frisky look at the waitressing life, the play depicts this profession as upbeat and extremely community oriented. Twelve energetic actors share over 60 roles! Share the thrills as grouchy fathers have their breakfasts while rubbing shoulders with legislators and blue collar workers. Holden is best known for penning numerous works for the Tony-award winning San Francisco Mime Troupe. She wrote for the group for an unprecedented 33 years, producing satiric plays such as Seeing Double. This Obie award-winning work was co-authored with Holden, Arabs and Jews, and comprises “an argument for a two-state solution in the form of a mistaken-identity farce.” So, join Stagebridge next month for an inside look at “aging waitresses who have turned their lives into art.” And check the website for special offers. Counter Attack! Runs from February 3 through March 4th at the Ashby Stage in Berkeley. Tickets available through Brown Paper Tickets or at (510) 444-4755 (x114).
