Stage Aurora has previously had many exciting shows in 2012 such as “The Wiz”, “To Kill a Mocking Bird”, “The Color Purple” and recently “A Very Merry Jacksonville Christmas” just to mention a few of the theatrical accomplishments that Mr. Darryl Reuben Hall has brought from the Broadway stage (and his own creations) to the Jacksonville, Florida stage.
Well, Stage Aurora Theatrical Company announces auditions for the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning Broadway drama “FENCES” written by August Wilson. Denzel Washington and Viola Davis won Best Actor and Best Actress Awards in the play for their portrayal of Troy and Rose.
Stage Aurora is looking for dynamic African American dramatic actors to play Gabriel (40s); Rose (40s), Raynell (6-9), and Cory (late teens/ early 20s). Those auditioning should bring a headshot and resume and be prepared to recite a 2-minute contemporary dramatic monologue of his/her choice. If you don’t have a monologue, you may read from the script.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2013 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Stage Aurora Performance Hall.
In 1987, this sensational drama starred James Earl Jones as Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro baseball leagues who now works as a garbage man in 1957 Pittsburgh. Excluded as a black man from the major leagues during his prime, Troy's bitterness takes its toll on his relationships with his wife and his son, who now wants his own chance to play ball. James Earl Jones won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play in 1987.
FENCES will be performed February 1-10, 2013 (Weekends only).
Rehearsals will begin Monday, January 7, 2013 and will run Monday – Thursday starting promptly at 6:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 2:30 p.m. 5:00 p.m. Each actor may or may not be on call for each night.
