Additional training can help employees stay up to date on the current processes and job duties affecting their positions. Allowing employees to get the necessary training and development to complete their job tasks better can only help the organization as a whole. Dessler (2011) explained the importance of continual learning experiences for employees which provides them with constant training for their tenure at the organization.
This will ensure the employees have the needed skills to do their jobs effectively and have the opportunity to expand their horizons as well.
Dessler (2011) also goes on to say that more and more companies are seeking to empower their workers by giving them more power to make critical decisions and help a wide range of customers and clients that might have English as their second language.
Other needed skills employers are providing for their employees are computer literacy and help paying for additional college level classes. There are a lot of organizations that offer tuition reimbursement to employees that attend an accredited college or university.
Organizations are seeking to have a more educated staff that can better assist its customers in a more professional manner.
To access if the problem is in fact with the training the employees should be brought in to talk about it in the form of several focus groups. Within these smaller groups the employees will be asked several questions that will identify if there are problems with the training they received.
They will be asked if they felt the training should have been longer, if information they learned while on the floor was not covered in training, if their trainer presented the information in a clear and understandable way, and what they would have changed about the training. Dumas & Hanchane (2010) stated that a dedicated training department or at least an employee responsible for training appears to have a strong impact on how well the organization performs as a whole.
In addition it would be good to have the supervisor closely watch how new employees are picking up on the information they have learned from the trainers versus their coaches once they get to the floor.
Coaches within an organization could be questioned as well to see what they have observed from new employees and which ones have been successful and which ones are not. Auditing could be done more thoroughly for the new employees to see if the relation to devices is sent back to be reworked is due to a lack of quality training.
Employees need to be provided feedback as to how they are doing on a consistent basis so they can improve in areas that need work.
