Ground was broken on the Georgia Dome in 1989, and with completion of the project coming in time for the 1992 NFL season. Early on its became famous for hosting the 1996 Olympic Games, but at nearly 20 years old now this is one of the older building still in use by a NFL team.

With that being said it is a football specific facility and is so nice it has played host to the Super Bowl Twice. More than that though the Georgia Dome is a symbol of the transformation of Atlanta from Minor League Major Sports City to big time sports city destination. The Completion of the Georgia Dome and Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves nabbed the city the Olympics and two very nice venues for their pro team to play in.

The best feature of the Dome, for fans that is, is seats in the Upper Deck and in all of the corners of the stadium are angled so fans can see the field of play without having to twist their bodies. The Dome’s walkways are lined by massive windows to allow them to be lit by natural light. In many ways the Georgia Dome was the precursor to Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions.

The Georgia Dome has 203 Luxury Suites and 5,600 club level seats. Most of those were added in a 2006 renovation of the facility to lure the Falcons into staying put. While that has been partially successful there are a few plans for the Falcons to build a new stadium in or around the downtown Atlanta area.
