The St. Regis Atlanta, an unparalleled in-town resort located in the elegant enclave of Buckhead, is pleased to invite guests and locals to celebrate the holiday season with its timeless winter events and experiences. New this year, acclaimed local artist-in-residence Steve Penley has been commissioned to create a custom painting that will hang inside the life-size gingerbread house that will reside in the hotel’s elegant lobby. The gingerbread house will be unveiled on November 29, with Penley’s limited edition artwork displayed over the faux fireplace and framed in candy in keeping with traditional gingerbread house decor. The intricately crafted confectionary masterpiece will be embellished with festive holiday sweets and ornaments including lollipops, gummy bears and popcorn. The Penley painting will be part of a silent auction running throughout the holidays, with proceeds benefiting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
The St. Regis Atlanta is also thrilled to reawaken the Astor Holiday Ice Rink for its fifth annual season. The rink has become a cherished holiday destination for the community and seasonal visitors, offering the unique experience of skating in the magical outdoor setting of the hotel’s 40,000-square-foot Pool Piazza. Protected from the elements by a billowing sheer tent, the rink is charmingly adorned with a panoply of white lights as skaters glide to the soft sounds of festive holiday tunes. The Astor Holiday Rink will be open from November 27, 2013 through January 5, 2014.
“We are incredibly enthusiastic about expanding upon The St. Regis Atlanta’s popular holiday traditions this year,” said Senih Geray, general manager. “We feel especially privileged to have artist-in-residence Steve Penley create a special artwork for the gingerbread house. Guests will continue to be captivated by our compelling holiday offerings. The St. Regis Atlanta has become an extremely popular winter destination, and our goal is to continue to enhance that experience every holiday season for years to come.”
Inspiration for the holiday experiences at The St. Regis Atlanta dates back more than a century to the renowned Astor family, founders of the St. Regis, who hosted elaborate events for their illustrious friends, known as “The 400,” including a winter holiday soiree featuring an ice skating rink in the grand ballroom of the flagship St. Regis New York.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, The St. Regis Atlanta will offer seasonal favorites like hot cocoa, s’mores and Coca-Cola in holiday-themed bottles in the outdoor area surrounding the Astor Holiday Rink. Visitors can enjoy the treats while sitting next to the Piazza’s cozy outdoor fireplace. The rink will be open to all visitors from noon to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends. Skating sessions will start every hour and be priced at $30 per hour for adults and $18 per hour for children under 16 (exclusive of tax). Reservations are highly encouraged.
The Astor Holiday Rink is also the perfect celebratory venue, with exclusive offerings for ice skating parties or group gatherings. Children’s Skating Parties include one-hour rink admission, skate rentals, and adult supervision on the ice.
