St-Pierre retains title against Condit at UFC 154 (Video)

In what was an absolutely outstanding fight, UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre successfully returned to cage and defended his title against an impressive Carlos Condit. The fight was the main event of UFC 154 which took place at Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada and aired live on pay per view.

St-Pierre cut Condit early in the fight by delivering a stiff elbow near the right eye of Condit. Condit was able to hold on though and in the third round he landed a left head kick that sent St-Pierre down. It appeared that Condit had the win in his grasp but St-Pierre did a great job a recovering and actually ended the round on top of Condit. After five great rounds of action the judges scored it 50-45, 49-46, and 49-46 for St-Pierre.

St-Pierre told Joe Rogan after the fight that Condit was his toughest opponent yet.

"People talk about ring rust," St-Pierre said. "I definitely know what it is now. Credit to Carlos, he gave me my toughest fight."

Condit did a great job fighting from his back but it was the controlling top game St-Pierre that kept Condit from creating the space he needed to get anything done from his back. In typical St-Pierre fashion, he easily scored takedowns and smothered Condit.

This win marks St-Pierre's seventh straight title defense, a record in the welterweight division. It also moves his career record to 23-2 with a 17-2 mark in the UFC.

Condit may have came up short in the biggest fight of his career, but he showed that he deserves to be held in the same regard as the top tier welterweights in the world.
