St. Petersburg man charged with extreme neglect of his senior German shepherd

Pinellas County Jail

Jason Leigh Aldridge faces one count of felony animal cruelty after authorities arrived at his mobile trailer home on Haines Road concerning a report of an emaciated dog found wandering and living in filthy conditions reported tbo.com.

A 17-year-old German shepherd named Rocky had been living and sleeping in an area filled with feces and urine. Rocky was emaciated and malnourished, weighing only 47 pounds. According to Aldridge, he didn't have the money to take his dog to the vet even though Rocky had recently been losing weight. The dog was infested with fleas and had a large tumor hanging between his legs.

When authorities searched the area, they only found an empty food and water bowl. The only dog food available for Rocky was in a plastic bag full of insects.

Rocky was seized by the Pinellas County Animal Services. Sadly, Rocky's condition was so severe, he was humanely euthanized.

Aldridge was taken to the Pinellas County Jail and bond was set at $5,000. He has since been released.

Rest in peace Rocky.
