St. Pete man arrested for preying on the elderly

From the Bay News 9 website, a local man has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of burglary and exploitation of the elderly.

28-year-old David Ryals of St. Petersburg was charged with the above counts in Gulfport. Posing as a handyman, the suspect would "befriend" elderly single women and convice them of jobs that needed to be done. One woman gave him a downpayment for concrete repair work. He repaid her kindness by breaking into her home and stealing valuables while she was on vacation.

All together it looks like Ryals took money from four people including an 85-year-old who gave him a downpayment to do a pressure washing job. He took the money and never came back, prompting the woman to call the police.

All the victims said he was polite, clean cut and looked religious. In this case, perhaps, looks were deceiving.
