More often than not St. Paul & the Broken Bones (SP&BB) seem to find themselves out on the road playing any venue that will have them. They spread music like the gospel growing their musical congregation with each city, town and crossroads. Saturday February 22nd St Paul & the Broken Bones roll into Atlanta for a night of soulful music that will have the packed room at the EARL dancing and singing.
Leading up to the release of their debut LP Half The City, SP&BB have been wowing audiences with their high octane musical review. Their shows start wide open and stay that way until they are physically exhausted. When they hit the stage and the music begins to trickle from the speakers the band successfully harnesses the ghosts of southern soul singers past with boisterous horns, smooth guitars and wailing vocals. Saturday night should be no different. Look for a set list loaded with songs from the latest record, their EP and maybe a cover or two but that shouldn’t be a prerequisite for attending the show because they could sing the phone book and it would sound incredible.
Opening the night of great tunes is the newest semi-supergroup Party Dolls. A conglomeration of Athens musicians, they have been playing live for quite some time now and with each show they just keep getting better. Their debut album Love Wars Baby is a guitar driven record loaded with songs about loss and heartache that sound incredible live as the emotional lyrics flow from the speakers. Yes the songs are not all rainbows and unicorns but don’t worry about being depressed. You need to get there early so their set is not missed.
This Saturday night in Atlanta the place to be is the EARL. Grab some grub a few cold beverages then head to the back for a night of killer music. The music will resonate off the walls taking up space in your ears sending you home much happier than when you showed up. This one will be too good to miss out on.
