The gigantic Shamrock Run will take over the Portland Waterfront on Sunday, March 16, 2014. This annual event is sold-out, so if you're not one of the 35,000 people already registered, you'll just have to watch.

You can console yourself by joining in the absolutely open, and free walk on Saturday, March 15 from the Hillsdale Brewery and Pub. The Cedar Milers' annual St. Patrick's Walk is open for registration and start from 9 am until 1 pm. The walk will explore trails and parks in the Hillsdale area, including Custer Park, Gabriel Park, Kelly Park and Gray Park. It will follow the SW Trails system, so be prepared for natural trail in addition to streets and sidewalks. Trekking poles and walking sticks might come in handy. Two routes are available - a 10K (6.2 mile) and a 6K (4 mile) walk.

Parking for the Hillsdale Walk will be at Woodrow Wilson High School, two blocks from the starting point at the brewpub.

The walk also will collect teddy bears for the Washington County Sheriff's Office Buddy Bear program. New or gently used teddy bears are collected for comforting children who are being assisted or transported by police officers.

The walk is offered for free (donation appreciated) or $3 for IVV volkssport credit. The routes are marked and maps are also provided.
