St. Patrick's Day parades and festivities in Chicago suburbs

Saint Patrick's Day is being celebrated throughout the Chicago area on the weekend of March 15, 2014. The biggest celebration, in downtown Chicago, is Green River and St. Patrick's Day Parade. There are also celebrations held in the Chicago suburbs, including the following, taking place in Naperville, Dundee, Lake Villa, Palatine and Barrington, Illinois.

Naperville St. Patrick's Day Parade and 5K is on Sat., March 15. The Parade kicks off on Sat. at 10:00 a.m., starting at Naperville High School (899 N. Mill St.) and continuing south on Mill St., east on Jefferson Ave., south on Main St. and west on Water St. tothe Municipal Center. The Western Suburban Irish host a 5K run and walk at 8:00 a.m..

East and West Dundee celebrate St. Patrick's Day with fireworks and a parade. The fireworks sponsored by Bandito Barney's, fire off at 7:30 p.m. at Fox River Footbridge. The Thom McNamee Memorial St. Patrick's Day Parade is on Sat., starting at 11:00 a.m. and winds up at Bandito Barneys Beach Club, where Irish staples of corned beef and cabbage and green beer are served all day long.

Lake Villa's annual St. Patricks Day Parade kicks off at noon. The family-friendly small-town parade is followed by the annual corned beef and cabbage luncheon at the VFW in Lake Villa. Photos of St. Patrick's Parade in Lake Villa

Palatine holds Paint the Town Green celebration and parade with an Irish Market and musical entertainment under the tent at Durty Nellies from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The parade steps off at 11:00 p.m.. Musical entertainment at Durty Nellies runs from 12:30 p.m. - 2 a.m. (after 3 p.m. a $7 cover charage applies). Emmett's Brewing Company and Bauer's Brauhaus offer Irish specials during the day.

Barrington Celtic Fest is a four day festival held Fri.-Mon., Mar. 14-17, in Barrington. The festivities are in a heated outdoor tent and inside McGonigal's Pub & The Annex (200 Block Park Ave.) in downtown Barrington. The weekend of fun includes a variety of entertainment, music, Irish dancers, bagpipers, food and beverages. Admission to the tent is free during the day, but there is a $10 admission/donation on Fri. & Sat. after 6 p.m..

The St. Patrick's Parade in downtown St. Charles steps off 2 p.m. on Sat. Start the celebration early by attending the Irish dance show at 10 a.m. and/or the St. Patrick's Pet Parade at 11:30 a.m.
