St. Patrick's Day in Los Angeles

One of the many enjoyable things about living in the States is the crazy ethnic-driven holidays created for no other reason than getting blazing drunk and eating awesome food. As the melting pot that America is, we benefit from celebrating Cinco de Mayo, Chinese New Year, Fat Tuesday and St. Patrick’s Day to name but a few rollicking revelries of debauchery. With St. Patty’s day on the blurry horizon, consider a trip (via cab or Metrolink!) to Casey's Irish Pub in downtown Los Angeles.

Last year Casey's Irish Pub went through over 200 kegs of Guinness and 60 cases of Bushmills whiskey in bloating the livers of crowds topping 12,000. This year, the famous bar has added an extra block of space and will be ordering a total of 500 kegs in anticipation of 15,000 St. Pat’s festival guests beginning bright and early at 6:00AM on Saturday, March 15.

This is all part of a raucous festival that will close downtown LA between 6th and 7th street and Wilshire for the day. Whiskeys, classic pickle back shots made with Casey’s house-made pickle juice, specialty dishes including over 200 pounds of corned beef and, of course, pints of Guinness will be available until 2:00AM with Irish bands playing throughout the day including a U2 cover band.

Start the day’s festivities with a breakfast of Lucky Charms, Bacon, Eggs and toast from 7:00AM to 10:00AM followed by Casey’s St. Patty’s lunch and dinner menu from 11:00AM until the food runs out, highlighting hearty, holiday-inspired eats including Rueben sandwiches and signature corned beef sammies with cole slaw.

Entry to the festival is free before 1:00PM and later arrivals will pay a ticket price of $8.00 that will cover the expanded space, additional bathrooms, selection of food and drinks and 20 hours of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. VIP tickets are available for purchase for $20.00 and will allow separate entry without lines and access to a raised VIP area to survey the festival from a bird’s eye view while enjoying libations.

Again, plan for transportation in and out of downtown that day as Maroon 5 plays at Staples that night and will only glut traffic further. Cheers!
