Doing any art project with children is fun but there is something special about doing holiday art that everyone enjoys. There are a lot of fun art projects you can do with young children for St. Patrick’s Day. Using the child’s hand or foot to create the picture can make it a keep sake as well. Here are only a few ideas you can try.

Hand Four Leaf Clover- You will be tracing or painting and printing the child’s hand four times. When placing the child’s hand on the paper, line the middle figure up with one to the corners of the paper. For the next print turn the paper so that the middle finger lines up with the next corner the palms will overlap. Continue until you have four hand prints. Then add a stem between two of the prints. If you traced the hands then outline the traced hand and color it in green. This can also be done with feet as well.

Hand Leprechaun- Place the paper long ways in front of the child. Trace the child’s hand with their figures close together. Using the figures for the hat, draw a green top hat around them and color it in green. The palm is the face of the leprechaun, draw eyes, nose, mouth, and you can add a red beard.

Another Hand Leprechaun- Begin the same way with tracing the hand. Then turn the paper so that the figures are down. Draw a green hat at the top of the palm. The palm is still the leprechaun’s face. The figures become his bread, color it orange. You can color the thumb orange and add more orange around the face for hair.

Foot Pot of Gold- Put the paper long ways in front of you and then trace the foot. Using the toes as the gold in the pot of gold you can color them a yellowish color. The rest of the foot is the pot so color it black. You can also use paint and make prints of the foot with the toes yellow and the foot black paint.

Hand Rainbow- There many ways you can do a hand rainbow. Here’s a couple of different ways. Put the paper long ways in front of you and then trace the hand. Then starting with the pinky, color each finger the colors of the rainbow, extending the color to the edge of the palm; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Blue goes in the space between the thumb and forefinger. You can also use paint and paint each section of the hand a different color and then make a print.

Hand Rainbow with cloud- Put the paper long ways in front of you and then trace the hand. Using the palm as the cloud, make a bumpy line across the palm for the edge of the cloud. Then color the fingers the colors of the rainbow putting blue in the space between the thumb and forefinger. Extend the colors to the edge of the cloud.

Two Handed Rainbow with Pots of Gold- Put the paper wide ways in front of you. Place one hand at an angle so that the palm lines up with the corner. Spread the fingers out a little and trace the hand. Then put the other hand on the other side of the paper lining the palm up with the opposite corner. Trace that hand. On the palms draw pots. At the top of the pots draw coins sticking out. Color the pots black and the coins yellowish gold. Then draw lines connecting the fingers in an arch; pinky to pinky, ring finger to ring finger, and so on. Starting with the pinky color each finger a color of the rainbow, use the space between the thumb and forefinger as the blue.

You can combine some of these ideas to make different pictures. Look at the slide show to see examples of each project. No matter what art project you do the most important part it to have fun and be creative. Remember there is no wrong way to do art.
