For those who have filled their stomachs with too much Guinness, Jameson, and whatever else to be able to settle them with mere corned beef, and for those who would rather fill their stomachs with beef than whiskey for the holiday, there are a few bars and burger joints out there offering what actually look to be good St. Patrick's Day-themed burgers. Here are two.
Rare is offering a burger that is topped with "pulled corned beef" and cabbage ($15). I am often skeptical of extra meat that is not bacon being piled onto burgers--ham, fried chicken, etc.--because this is usually done in the name of American excess, rather than taste. But if the corned beef they are using at Rare is as juicy as the patties were at their West Village location (now closed), this could turn out to be a good combination.
And for those who want to escape the riffraff and still have or are able to feign basic motor skills, The Oak Bar (at The Plaza Hotel) is offering a green cheese burger. This is their regular dry aged prime beef burger topped with two types of sage and a grass colored Dutch gouda. (To be honest, I cannot quite predict how sage and gouda will taste together on a burger, but these cheeses must have been chosen for taste as well as color.) ($24, or $40 with a car bomb)
