It’s always the ultimate dream for many international artists to come to America for the chance to make it big in the music industry, Los Angeles being a great place to start. Even though Ireland has lively and vibrant music, many artists choose to make their way here due to the lack of a strong industry presence; making it difficult to take their career to the next level. This week, two artists in particular decided to do just that… gracing Los Angeles with their presence over St. Patrick’s Day weekend. They have been here working in the studio with the acclaimed award-winning producer, George 'G1' Archie and setting meetings with labels and publishers. Let’s meet the incredibly talented Stephanie Rainey and Gary Keane aka Like A Fire.
Stephanie Rainey is a pop/rock artist with a unique and captivating folk twist. Her music is emotional, honest and unbelievably catchy. She has been increasingly making an impact on the Irish music scene. Her debut single 'The One' was released with great response, gaining her an avid fan base as the track was given frequent radio plays both locally and nationally. She has played a number of gigs in Canada as part of the International Indie Week showcase. From there, she was invited to compete on the Irish leg of the competition and finished third, making her the highest ranking and only Irish act to place in the showcase. More recently, Stephanie has gained a lot of exposure for her cover of Lorde's 'Royals,' which she cleverly mixed with Massive Attack's 'Teardrop.' This cover too was picked up by Irish radio. Her new EP “Half of Me” is due to release in April of this year. Her live shows flawlessly move between hard-hitting, harmony rich tracks to stripped back, slow burning acoustic sets.
Gary Keane has a different, yet extremely unique approach to his music, even though the two often perform together. He has been described as having an explosion of high-intensity vocals and hard-hitting R&B backbeats. Also known as Like A Fire, Gary is about to set the Irish music scene alight this year with his hard-hitting R&B fusion of rock and pop. He is an award-winning performer and has already performed at The Late Late Show, Electric Picnic and Indie Week Canada in Toronto. Using the grounds of a 17th-Century church in Ireland as his creative hub, Gary completed his Debut EP, 'Veni Vidi Vici' this past year. The EP was mastered by Grammy Award winning engineer, Brian 'Big Bass' Gardner, out of Los Angeles who boasts names like Dr. Dre, JAY-Z, and Michael Jackson. With his intensely captivating and mesmerizing sounds echoing shades of artists such as Justin Timberlake and One Republic, Gary shows that he is set to join the ranks of some of Ireland’s leading songwriting and production heavyweights. He was one of only three Irish acts invited to Toronto, Canada to perform at the Irish Showcase at Indie Week Canada last October. He was the overall winner of the Access All Areas competition on the main stage at the Rose Of Tralee Festival this year with his solo beatbox performances.
These are artists with real promise and they will soon be the name on every music lover’s lips. Expect powerful, emotionally driven choruses, irresistible grooves and delivery so honest and intense, they’ll be nothing short of electric. Welcome to America!
