St. Norbert College to host auditions for South Pacific

Nestled along the banks of the Fox River is St. Norbert College. Ranked as one of the best colleges to attend in the country, St Norbert College provides theater students and the community opportunities to perform in a variety of productions. St. Norbert College's Music Theatre Department has announced auditions for the reprise of "South Pacific".

'South Pacific" is based from James A. Mitchner's Pulitzer Prize-winning book titled "Tales of the South Pacific". A Rodger's and Hammerstein production, "South Pacific" has won Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1950.

The St. Norbert theater production did extremely well with twelve sold out performances last summer season and it was announced that “South Pacific”will return with nine performances, June 4 through the 16, in the 180-seat Webb Theatre.

Auditions will be held Monday, April 8, 2013, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts on the St. Norbert campus.While many members of last summer’s production will return, director Alicia Birder is seeking three female and six male actors to fill the following roles:

MALE ROLES:

Lt. Joseph Cable, United States Navy – principal role, strong tenor, must act and sing well, 20-35 years old.

Marine Corps Yeoman Herbert Quale – sailor, speaking role, must act, sing and move well, 20-30 years old.

Staff Sgt. Thomas Hassinger – must sing, act and move well, 20-40 years old

Radio Operator Bob McCaffrey – sailor, must sing, act and move well, 20-40 years old.

Shore Patrolman – speaking role, strong voice and appearance, 30-60 years old.

Halette – cameo role, butler’s assistant, physical actor; also offstage stagehand.

FEMALE ROLES:

Ensign Dinah Murphy – must sing, act and dance well, 20-40 years old.

Ensign Sue Yaeger – French guest, must act and dance well, 20-40 years old.

Island Native – Bloody Mary assistant, must act well, ethnic character, 18-30 years old.
