St.Monica falls to Christian late

St. Monica (Santa Monica,CA) fell short last Saturday against the Christian High (El Cajon, CA) Patriots. This put the Mariners record at 1-1 on the 2010 season under second year coach Larry Muno. The Mariners have shown big strides this season on the defensive side of the ball, but could not hold off the Patriots on the final drive of the game.

The Mariners defense accounted for two stops on fourth down and four turnovers. Christian High quarterback Shane Dillion threw three interceptions but made some big completions on the final drive of the game. On that final drive Patriots running back, Tyrone Sauls, dove in and sealed the 24-20 win for Christian.

St. Monica quarterback Matt Partyka continues to play well. Partyka threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns. Partyka also ran one in and is the Mariners top weapon on offense. The biggest play for the Mariners was a 75 yard touchdown strike to receiver Sam Holguin. Holguin caught a deep out pattern and showed a big burst of speed as he streaked down the sideline. Holguin also had an interception on defense.

The Mariners (1-1) will look to get back on track this weekend when they host Malibu
(1-1) on Saturday, September 18.
