St. Louis woman charged with killing infant son, 7-years after murder

Ashley Austin has been charged with the murder of her 3-month year old son who died on the morning of 30-December 2005. Even though it has been nearly 7-years since the death of her child, there are no statues of limitations with capital crimes such as murder. Austin had been charged with 1st-degree murder. An autopsy revealed several fractured ribs, lacerations to his liver, brain hemorrhaging and several abrasions. She was charged back in 2006; however, she was declared incompetent to stand trial, until now. Austin has been in a mental institution and was recently declared able to stand trial. A relative told the Saint Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper that Austin is schizophrenic and is on medication.
