St. Louis job alert: Coventry to lay off over 100 employees in Missouri

This spring will bring more job loss for the St. Louis area.  In a STL Today report, Coventry has announced 150 layoffs in Missouri.  While a large portion of these job losses are slotted for the Springfield area, the St. Louis report quotes a Springfield News-Leader article that stated:

The company also filed a WARN notice with the department stating its intention to close its St. Louis office and lay off 65 people.

Coventry provides healthcare services and insurance.  These layoffs may come as a surprise, however, to those perusing the Coventry healthcare jobs board that was updated with new job opportunities just this week.

Not even two years ago, Coventry acquired Mercy health plans.  According to the St. Louis Business Journal report at that time, the company was said to employ approximately 270 workers at its facility in Chesterfield.

While this news comes as a huge blow to Coventry employees, these new job seekers may find comfort in a recent St. Louis Job Search Examiner article posted regarding available jobs in the Chesterfield area.  Sites such as Careerbuilder.com list new job openings daily.  A search conducted this morning, lists two new jobs in Chesterfield which brings the total of current job listings on Careerbuilder.com to 109 opportunities as of today in or around the Chesterfield area.
