St. Lawrence County seeks Supervisor of Dispatch Operations

The St. Lawrence County Department of Emergency has announced that they are seeking a qualified Supervisor of Dispatch Operations.

The department oversees and operates the 911 emergency call center for all of St. Lawrence County and is responsible for dispatching all fire departments and rescue squads. It also handles dispatch operations for the County Sheriff's Department and is located with the NY State Police dispatchers.

The 911 dispatch center has the responsibility for the transmission of emergency information
including emergency medical services pre-arrival instructions, dispatch of police, fire and EMS personnel and equipment and for the training and supervision of subordinate dispatchers and telecommunicators.

The new supervisor will work under the general supervision of the Director of Emergency Services.

This is a new position within the department.

The minimum qualifications for this position include a BS or BA Degree and 3yrs experioence in dispatching police, fire or other emergency personnel, emergency preparedness, fire fighting or emergency medical services. At least one year of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.

The applicant will qualifiy if they have an AS Degree and 5yrs experience as described above.
Volunteer experience will be allowed to be substituted for paid experience provided the volunteer
experience is equivalent in nature to the paid work experience required for the position.

This is a salaried, non-union position and Civil Service Examination required for permanent appointment. However, the applicant can be hired provisionally pending successful performance on the Civil Service Exam.
