Charles Torturica is walking around in the gym he owns in St.John’s, Arizona, the Fitness Connection Gym. He is open and always glad when someone stops in just to ask questions. It has the usual equipment of bikes and weights that you can watch yourself as you flex your muscles in the mirrored walls. Today, the Concho sun in the full blue Arizona sky reaches into the desk area where he keeps his phone ... he stands up when someone walks into the place. He is fast to talk and let you know what the gym has including a tanning bed.

Recently, Charles has taken his interest in fitness into boxing – or as phrased- Olympic Style Boxing – into the lives of kids and teens - perhaps an important sport because of the difference the discipline it made in his early years. Things like confidence and focus and also the possibility of taking a shy kid and helping them to feel differently about themselves.

The first White Mountain Boxing Club is presenting Olympic Style Boxing at the St. John’s Middle School on Saturday, March 29th…$10.00 at 2 pm, he notes…”Weign-in’s, matchmaking and doctor checks will take place before the starting time…” I think that’s where the action is and I will be there.

Boxing for children and teens has the attention of the Concho community. The flyer announcing the event has been posted in different stores and bulletin boards in the St. John’s area, as well. The participants are coming from as far away as Phoenix…ten percent are girls sometimes change is slow. Charles has no feeling either way he is happy about the difference boxing can make in a young person’s life…he should know it did for him.
